  • Your book must be enrolled in KDP Select for at least 30 days before the countdown.
  • Your book must be priced between $2.99 and $24.99 prior to the promotion.
  • Your book must be available in the UK or US Amazon store.

For further eligibility requirements, visit this page.

If you’re eligible and haven’t tried it yet, don’t wait a minute longer!

It may look too good to be true, but Amazon even allows authors keep 70% royalty of the sales.

The program works because it leverages on FOMO, and the sense of urgency created by the countdown timer. Amazon drops the price of your book for a limited period (7 days at most) and lets the customer watch as the clock ticks by.

Urgency is a powerful motivator. It tempts the customer to give in and buy; spiking up sales in the process.

Setting up a Kindle Countdown Deal is straightforward.

KDP Account > Bookshelf Tab > Promote and Advertise > Create a new Kindle Countdown Deal > Select Store, Days and Price Points > Add Promotion

Tada! You’re all set and ready to roll!

Since it’s free to run it, you have nothing to lose. There’s no reason not to take advantage of this.

Pro trip:

Now that your book is on sale, spread the word! Make use of your email lists and social media promotion tools. Let people know that now is the best time to snatch your book away.
